- In 1868 a volunteer brigade was formed to operate a fire engine brought to the town from Gloucester by an insurance company. A brigade formed in 1931 became part of the county fire service in 1948. It was based on a station next to the rural district council's offices in High Street before 1964, when a new fire station opened on the east side of Cinder Hill. |
